Story on the phone

                Our schools are closed due to Kovid 19. We and our children can't meet each other every day even though we want to. So learning and teaching is not likely to stop. The question of how to continue teaching in the schools of the area came to my mind as a teacher, then I found a way to find the answer to the question itself. My parents don't have smart phones, so laptops and computers are a long way off, even though there is a lack of internet in some areas. All our parents are poor farmers, two acre farm and most of them live on wages then they have to find some way to solve the problem of how to afford internet pack of 300 to 400 rupees and that way was found ‘Story on Phone’.

                All my parents have mobile phones but now I have decided to use this phone to educate my children and since 15th April I have been calling my parents every morning and evening on their simple phone and telling them that their children want to chat for half an hour. I was doing this because the village next door was in the contenment zone as Corona was a patient so it was not possible to go there. But I started calling conference twice a day at 8 o'clock in the morning, that is, before going to work and at 7:30 in the evening, after work and before the children go to bed. If there are children, I can take classes for about 15 children at a time over the phone. Geo has an app called Group Voice Call, which allows parents to call as many Geo holders as possible with one click.

                    During the first week, the children would talk to each other, the parents would not be home on time, but when the network problem came up, it was necessary to teach the children. As I said on the phone, the children started taking notebook pens, turned on the speaker of the phone and started recording. Then I used to do one thing every morning which was related to the book and sometimes it was purely entertaining but it was very informative. The children started listening carefully. All the parents of the house started saying, "Guruji, your school on the phone is good for engaging the children. It improves the expression skills of the children."

                    For the next 10 days, we would tell stories in the morning. In the evening, the children would tell me stories like this, which meant that I was successful in listening, speech, and expression. Karto said and some of the children made a small effort that day. Then all the children started writing stories as they listened to each other in the class and parents were happy to see nice things. Then in June we got books. I take it and teach it like a story and the children tell me the same thing in the evening, from which their comprehension improved a lot. At present I have started using it in all subjects. Children are also happily learning through voice calls right now.

                        I did not stop there but told the teachers around us about the experiment. Some of the teachers started the experiment in their school and are successfully implementing it. Most of the teachers in all the districts are using it today. Wow to Atul Kulkarni teacher who is implementing innovative experiments in rural areas during Kovid period! What's up Guruji! I created a story like this and my 'Story on Phone' spread across the state and millions of teachers started using it after learning about it. In these 100 days, I myself have been invited as a speaker in more than 50 webinars across the country. Overall, the journey of 'Local to Global' has started.

                        It is important to note that this is being used to improve overall learning, reading, writing, and expression skills, and is taking place in the current Covid era. Thanks to 'Story on Phone', our education is going well. It simply came to our notice then.

स्टोरी ऑन फोन

        कोविड १९ मुळे आमच्या शाळा बंद आहेत.आम्ही व आमची मुले एकमेकांना इच्छा असूनही दररोज भेटू शकत नाही.मग शिकणे व शिकवणे हे हि बंद पडण्याची शक्यता आहे नव्हे बहुतांश बंद पडत आहे त्यात काही ठिकाणी ऑनलाईन शिक्षण सुरु केले मात्र आमच्या सारख्या सातारा जिल्ह्यातील दुर्गम व ग्रामीण भागातील शाळांमध्ये कसे शिक्षण सुरु ठेवावे हा प्रश्न शिक्षक म्हणून माझ्या समोर आ वासून उभा राहिला ,मग प्रश्नातच उत्तर शोधण्याचा मार्ग मी शोधला. माझ्या पालाका कडे स्मार्ट फोन नाहीत मग laptop व संगणक खूप दूरची गोष्ट त्यात इंटरनेट ची वणवा जरी काही भागात आहे. आमचे सर्व  पालक  गरीब शेतकरी , एकर दोन एकर शेती आणि बहुतांश मजुरीवर जगणारे पालक मग त्यांनी ३०० ते ४०० रु चा इंटरनेट pack कसा परवडेल अशा अडचणीत काहीतरी मार्ग शोधणे आवश्यक होते आणि तो मार्ग सापडला ‘स्टोरी ऑन फोन’.

                माझ्या सर्व पालकांकडे मोबाईल फोन मात्र आहेत आता मी त्या फोन द्वारेच मुलांना शिक्षण देण्याचे ठरवले आणि पालकांना १५ एप्रिल पासून दररोज सकाळी आणि संध्याकाळी त्यांच्या  साध्या फोनवर व्हाईस कॉल करायचो व मुलांना याद्वारे अर्धा तास गप्पा मारायच्या आहेत असे पालकांना सांगितले व त्यातून मुलांचा अभ्यास घेईन अशी चर्चा फोनवरच मी करत होतो कारण बाजूचे गाव करोना पेशंट असल्याने contenment झोन मध्ये होते त्यामुळे तिकडे जाने शक्य नव्हते.पालकांना सुरुवातीला वाटले अशी कुठं शाळा असते का ? मात्र मी दररोज २ वेळा सकाळी ८ वाजता म्हणजे ते कामावर जाण्यापूर्वी व संध्या ७:३० ला कामावरून आल्यावर व मुले झोपण्यापूर्वी अशा दोन वेळा निवडून दररोज कॉन्फरन्स कॉल करू लागलो.एका वेळी १० पालकांना कॉन्फरन्स कॉल वर एकत्रित घेता येते ,त्यातच काही घरातील २ किंवा ३ मुले असल्यास जवळपास १५ मुलांना एकाच वेळी मी फोनवरून वर्ग घेऊ शकतो.जिओ चे ग्रुप व्हाईस कॉल नावाचे एक app आहे त्याद्वारे एका क्लिक वर जेवढे पालक जिओ धारक आहेत त्यांना कॉल करता येतो यामध्ये मर्यादा नाही.

                सुरुवातीचा आठवडा मुले मध्येच काहीतरी बोलायचे, पालक वेळेवर घरी नसायचे ,कधी नेटवर्क ची समस्या मात्र हळूहळू या गोष्टी जमून आल्या मग मुलांना शिकवणे आवश्यक होते. मी फोनवर सांगितल्याप्रमाणे मुले वही पेन घेऊन फोनचा स्पीकर ऑन करून बसू लागले व रेकॉर्डिंग पण सुरु करू लागले पहिल्या आठवड्यात या गोष्टी अडचणी आल्या मात्र मुले सहजपणे यामध्ये तरबेज झाली. मग मी दररोज सकाळी एक गोष्ट मग ती पुस्तकाशी संबधीत तर कधी कधी निव्वळ मनोरंजन देणारी असायची मात्र त्यातून बोध छान मिळायचा.मुले काळजीपूर्वक ऐकायला लागली.फोन झाल्यावर रेकॉर्डिंग केलेली पण ऐकायचे व फोन संपताच मी जे काही सांगितले ते आपल्या घरच्यांना जशाच्या तशे सांगायला लागले.मग घराचे सर्व पालक म्हणू लागले गुरुजी तुमची फोनवरची शाळा मुलांना गुंतवून  ठेवतीय बरं.यातून मुलांचं अभिव्यक्ती कौशल्य सुधारत होते.मग या गोष्टी कधी कधी पुस्तकातील पाठच्या हि मी सांगू लागलो आणि मुले एकूण जशाच्या तशा सांगू लागले.

                यानंतर १० दिवस आम्ही सकाळी मी गोष्ट सांगायचो संध्याकाळी मुले मला जशाच्या तश्या गोष्टी सांगू लागले म्हणजे मी श्रवण व भाषण,अभिव्यक्ती मध्ये यशस्वी झालो होतो.आता मला मुलांच्या लेखनाकडे वळायचे ठरवले व ऐकलेली ,सांगितलेली गोष्ट लिहता येईल का असे मी  एका दिवशी विचारले आणि मुले प्रयत्न करतो म्हणाले व काही मुलांनी त्या दिवशी छोटासा प्रत्यत्न केला.मग एकमेकांना वर्गात जसे ऐकतो तसे ऐकूण मुले गोष्टी लिहायला लागली व छान छान गोष्टी पाहून पालकांना आनंद होऊ लागला मग जूनमध्ये पुस्तके प्राप्त झाली आम्ही प्रत्येक विषय ठरवून पाठ गोष्टी सारखे शिकायला लागलो.सध्या दररोज एक विषय घेऊन त्याचा पाठ गोष्टी सारखा शिकवतो व मुले अगदी तसाच मला संध्याकाळी सांगतात त्यातून त्यांची आकलन क्षमता खूप छान सुधारली.सध्या सर्व विषयात मी याचा वापर सुरु केला आहे.  मुले सुद्धा आनंदाने सध्या व्हाईस कॉल द्वारे शिक्षण घेत आहेत.

                मग मी एवढ्यावरच थांबलो नाही तर माझ्या सोबत आमच्या आजूबाजूला असणा-या शाळेतील शिक्षकांना या प्रयोगाबद्दल सांगितले त्यातील काही शिक्षकांनी हा पर्योग त्यांच्या शाळेत सुरु करून यशस्वीपणे राबवत आहेत.आमच्या सातारा डायटच्या माध्यमाने या काळात विविध ऑनलाईन प्रशिक्षणात मी माझा हा प्रयोग मांडत गेलो तो सर्वांना इतका आवडला की सर्व जिल्ह्यात आज बहुतांश शिक्षक वापर करत आहेत.सोबतच लोकमत चे संपादक श्री. अतुल कुलकर्णी यांनी कोविड काळात ग्रामीण भागात नाविन्यपूर्ण प्रयोग राबवना-या शिक्षकावर वाह ! क्या बात है गुरुजी ! अशी एक स्टोरी बनवली आणि त्यात माझी ‘स्टोरी ऑन फोन’ संपूर्ण राज्यात पोहचून लाखो शिक्षक याबद्दल जाणून घेऊन याचा वापर करू लागले.सोबतच टोकियो जपान मधून, मेलबर्न आस्ट्रेलिया ,मुबई, रत्नागिरी अशा विविध ठिकाणाहून मला याबद्दल मेल आले व तिकडे राबवण्यास ते उत्सुक असल्याचे कळवले जात आहे.या १०० दिवसात मी स्वता देशभरात ५० पेक्षा जास्त वेबिणार मध्ये स्पीकर म्हणून आमंत्रित होतो त्यामुळे प्रत्येक वेबिणार मध्ये माझ्या विविध प्रयोगासोबत मी हा प्रयोग ,उपक्रम सांगितल्यास याला भरभरून प्रतिसाद मिळतोय कारण सर्व समस्यावर सहज करता येनायासारखा उपाय आहे. एकूणच ‘लोकल टू ग्लोबल’ असा प्रवास या उपक्रमाचा सुरु आहे.

                        एकूण आनंददायी असे शिक्षण,वाचन लेखन, अभिव्यक्ती कौशल्य सुधारण्यासाठी याचा उपयोग होत आहे व सध्याच्या कोविड काळात होतोय हे महत्त्वाचे आहे. ‘स्टोरी ऑन फोन’ मुळे आमचं आवश्यक तेवढं तरी शिक्षण उत्तमपणे सुरु आहे. बस्स ‘इच्छा तिथे मार्ग’ याचा परिचय प्रत्यक्ष यामुळे झाला.
